Read a course total
The registrar reports counts by letter grade. The A–F subtotal is useful for comparing shares of letter grades. Total enrollment can be higher when the report includes other grading outcomes. The reported GPA is a past course result.
Why the share of A grades can differ
The Arts & Sciences report for Spring 2026 records 168 A grades for CHEM 119. The share depends on which total you use.
| Denominator | Count | Share of A grades |
|---|---|---|
| A–F grades | 592 | 28.4% |
| All reported outcomes | 635 | 26.5% |
Field Guide’s grade bars use the A–F subtotal. Compare the same term, report and denominator when reading another display.
