Who can apply for campus housing?
Incoming freshmen can apply after admission. For academic-year housing, Residence Life requires an offer of admission to Texas A&M in College Station and enrollment in at least nine semester hours in each of fall and spring. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian signs electronically on your behalf.
The Gardens has a separate eligibility list and contract. Eligible categories include graduate students, transfer students, students at least 21 years old, and students with two completed A&M semesters. See the full Residence Life eligibility list and the Gardens profile.
Apply, rank halls and check your assignment
- Phase I · Open myHousing with your NetID, complete your profile, review and sign the contract, and pay the one-time, nonrefundable $75 fee with your first application.
- Phase II · about five days later · Rank residence halls and indicate interest in a Living Learning Community if applicable.
- Phase III · around April · Form a roommate group in the portal if you want to request a specific roommate.
- Phase IV · beginning in May · Eligible priority applicants get a timeslot for room selection. Residence Life assigns other available spaces using preferences and roommate groups as applicable.
Residence Life lists December 1 as its priority cutoff for applicants eligible for permanent housing. The published traditional permanent window runs December 2 through January 26. Confirm your status in myHousing. Students placed in a Living Learning Community receive an assignment in that community.
Temporary housing, waitlist and notify list
Residence Life can assign temporary rooms when permanent rooms fill. It moves students to permanent rooms as space opens.
The paid waitlist puts you in line for an offer if space opens. The unpaid notify list is contacted after eligible permanent, temporary and waitlisted students have been accommodated. Check the portal for the list you qualify for and the status of your request.
When the semester-pay contract takes effect
The published 2027–2032 semester-pay sample covers residence halls, Corps halls and White Creek. It describes three binding events. A newly assigned student submits the space acceptance form, a waitlisted student receives a space offer, or a returning student who requested a space during renewal receives an offer.
The agreement covers a housing space. Check the portal for your building, room and roommate assignment. Read the agreement shown in your portal when you apply and keep a copy of the version you sign.
Cancellation charges in the published sample
Section 4 lists these standard fall charges by cancellation date for residence halls, Corps halls and White Creek.
| Charge | New to campus housing | Returning for fall |
|---|---|---|
| No penalty | Before May 1 | Before March 1 |
| $500 | May 2–31 | March 2–May 31 |
| $1,000 | June 1–August 14 | June 1–August 14 |
| Full fall rent | August 15 or after move-in | August 15 or after move-in |
The sample leaves May 1 (new students) and March 1 (returning students) between its standard charge ranges. Check those dates, resident-advisor or Corps exceptions, and release after move-in against your signed agreement and Residence Life.
The separate spring-only schedule in the sample lists no penalty before December 1, $500 from December 1 through January 14, and full spring rent on January 15 or after move-in. If your housing ends, contact Aggie Dining separately about your meal plan.
Where to check your room rate and bill
Residence hall and White Creek charges post to your Howdy student account. The Gardens uses myHousing for rent and charges. The semester-pay sample describes nine-month hall contracts and nine-and-a-half-month White Creek contracts. Check your assignment and bill for your room charge and due dates. The application fee is separate from rent.
The dorm rate comparison covers published 2026–27 rates. For your 2027–28 budget, use the applicable Residence Life rate table and your assignment. Browse the halls and campus apartments or compare off-campus Fall 2027 leases.
